The 4th Grade In Class Library
Over the years I have been blessed with being able collect great age appropriate books that kids find interesting and love to read. The in class library is full of my favorite adventures, mysteries, silliness, and heart warming stories I hope your kids will enjoy.
Accelerated Reading
Information regarding accelerated reader:
As you know, our school has implemented Accelerated Reader (AR). Your child took, or will be soon, the STAR Assessment, which determined their reading level. The next step will be choosing books to read. The website to find AR levels for books is www.arbookfind.com.
After reading a book, your child may take a quiz on it. Quizzing will be done at school, either in the classroom or computer lab. (We go the computer lab on Wednesdays and Thursdays). They will be awarded points based on their performance on the test. We have a school wide goal of earning 85% or more on the quizzes.
I have the following policy regarding quizzing for AR:

I have the following policy regarding quizzing for AR:
- Books read must be in their AR range in order to take a quiz on it and receive points for it. In other words, they may read books outside their level, but will not be able to take a quiz on it (and therefore, not receive points for it)
- Students are required to read at least one AR book at their level each month. Besides their required book report book that they are reading at home, students will be reading independently at school, so this should not be an issue. I will be conferencing with them to make sure they are able to meet their one-AR-book-a-month requirement. Remember, even a picture book can be in their AR level.
- At the end of the quarter, an average of their AR quizzes will be taken and counted towards their Reading grade.
- If no quiz is taken by the end of the month, a 50% grade will be given.
- Quizzes cannot be taken more than once. If a student does not pass, they cannot “make it up”.
- 25% of their goal – small piece of candy
- 50% of their goal – a special reading pencil
- 75% of their goal – individual pizza hut coupon
- 100% or higher – they are invited to attend the “AR-end-of-quarter-special lunch with Mrs. B” (date tba)
